New Delhi: A speeding bus crushed a woman to death at a bus terminus here leading to mob violence in which two DTC buses were set on fire and several others damaged, police said Friday.

Narayan Devi, 50, of Uttar Pradesh’s Ghaziabad district was crushed to death by a DTC bus at about 8.30 p.m. Thursday at a bus terminus in Sultanpuri in west Delhi.

Police said the victim had come to Sultanpuri to attend her grandson’s birthday party.

“On her way home, Narayan Devi reached the bus terminus and was about to board a bus when another DTC bus crushed her under its wheels,” said a police official.

The errant bus driver, identified as Manoj Kumar, 25, has been arrested.

Following the incident, a huge crowd took out a march, pelted stones and smashed the glasses of several DTC buses.

“The crowd gathered at the spot and torched two DTC buses. The mob also damaged about half-a-dozen other buses,” the official said.

He added that the protesters were pacified after they were assured that suitable action will be initiated against the driver.
