“THEREFORE do not fear them; for there is nothing covered over that will not become uncovered, and secret that will not become known. What I tell you in darkness, say in the light; and what you hear whispered, preach from the housetops.”
Those are famous words from none other than Jesus Christ himself (you can find that in the Bible in the Gospel of Matthew, Chapter 10, verses 26 and 27).
And they came to mind again and again as I watched the WikiLeaks drama unfold.
WikiLeaks angered the American government last spring when it revealed a video taken by army choppers showing troops gunning down two unarmed Reuters journalists. It has since then leaked hundreds of thousands of classified U.S. war files from Iraq and Afghanistan as well as private American diplomatic cables that have embarrassed the U.S. government.
The leaks basically involve two vital aspects.
ONE is what I highlighted in this column three weeks ago on November 19 in a piece titled, “Beastly World of International Politics,” in which I slammed U.S. President Barack Obama for his failure to take up the issue of getting justice for victims of the 1984 Sikh massacre in Delhi with the Indian government. Obama also avoided visiting the Golden Temple in Amritsar.
I noted: “But that is a SAD fact about the beastly nature of international politics where opportunism almost always trumps principles – and Obama is no Mahatma Gandhi!
“As a Christian, I can tell you that in the Bible books of Daniel and Revelation that foretell world events, the world powers are all pictured as wild beasts. That is because that is their nature – RUTHLESS!”
It makes me laugh when western countries such as the U.S. try to condemn other countries for their undemocratic or unprincipled behaviour – that’s when I am reminded of yet another Bible verse: that of Jesus telling the hypocrites of his time to first remove the beam from their eye so that they could then clearly see how to remove the straw from their brother’s eye!
It is truly ironical that countries professing to follow Christian principles are quite often the BIGGEST VIOLATORS themselves.
Again, it’s like that famous Bible admonition: “Physician, heal thyself!”
TWO, the leaks have truly rattled all those hypocritical politicians who smile to your face while they stab you in the back. They carry on with their lies and deception day in and day out.
Alas, that’s the way we run our world!
But in this age of hi-tech, the governments can no longer control people like the way they did in the past. People will always find a way to circumvent government restrictions and controls on information.
And that is ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL!
Back in the 1960s and 1970s when I was a teenager, today’s world of technology was unimaginable.
Only now can I truly appreciate Jesus’ words – “For there is nothing covered over that will not become uncovered, and secret that will not become known.”
So guys, hang on to your hats, there is MUCH MORE to come in the future, I promise you!
