West Restaurant and bar, true to the region, true to the seasons is the home of the Vancouver’s finest dinning located in South Vancouver neighborhood. Since its conception about 14 years ago this eatery has won more awards and recognition than any other restaurants in the Lower-Mainland. This started with Vancouver best new restaurant in 2000, best first time entry wine list, and then silver award for best wine list in BC, and the latest was best BC Wines by the Glass. No wonder this place grabbed all the wines awards as there are about 800 different types of wines to choose from, wines from every corner of the Globe. The wine selection is housed in a magnificent wall of wine which is temperature controlled and complete with sliding library ladders providing an alluring backdrop to the gleaming cherry wood bar. The kitchen radiates energy and action, operating behind beveled glass at the back of the room, with two chef’s tables tucked slyly to the side rendering bird’s eye views of Kitchen Theater.
Recognized as the jewel in Vancouver’s culinary crown, West’s outstanding contemporary regional cuisine and seamless service has earned much critical acclaim. Its seasonal ingredients are sourced to deliver superbly conceived dishes offering modern interpretations of classics.
From outside this looks like a small place tucked away on Granville Street but as you enter, this huge eatery has its own contemporary set-up, lounge for the people who like to hang out for a while and sip their favorite wine, and if this is not your style, then you will be seated in the most comfortable seat in the house with elegant setting, even for a Tuesday night this place was packed with their regular customers.
1 8 West West_CocktailTheir relentless commitment to excellence demands that they have a huge selection wines to complement the cuisine they offer. This is a restaurant for special occasions; this is not your everyday eatery as their menu prices are at the higher end but believe me the service, the food and the ambience will be all worth it once you dine in here.
At the West the dessert menu changes with the seasons, tropical and fresh fruits as well as chocolate desserts will be featured and combined with local herbs for regional flavor. You can expect to see interesting accompaniments such as raspberry tarragon sorbet and fennel root panna cotta on the dessert menus.
I started off with freshly squeezed orange juice, with freshly baked rolls with whipped butter, and for the main course I had lamb (orange and pistachio crusted braised lamb
shank with crispy fennel shallot puree) for $36.50, the lamb melted in your mouth, so tender and juicy and a huge serving of lamb, it was all worth it for the price I paid, and dessert was so tempting that I had to have the cheese cake with mango puree and topped with grapefruit segment. The dessert starts from $9:50 to $12:00 for mouth watering desserts.
