SAFW adVancouver: Style and dressing is defined by body shape and personal colours, which we saw at the sneak peak of South Asian Fashion Week at their media event last week. Rich fabrics in bespoke cuts, ornate beading and intricate embroidery dominated the runway, giving us a taste of what to expect at the main event which will be held at the Molson Canadian Theater at the Hard Rock Casino Vancouver from March 2 – March 4.

“This event represents a place of inclusion and to celebrate the artistry, traditional craftsmanship of South Asian designers, and to create space that will take fashion to mainstream consumers beyond the borders of our community,” shared Pindie Dhaliwal, co-producer of SAFW. “We also have been working to empower both male and female models by conducting workshops which help them to increase confidence, eat healthy pre-runway, and create their own personal brand.”

SAFW will kick off on Friday, March 2 with the opening gala and cocktail reception, exclusive preview runway show, and close with an exquisite dinner. Saturday and Sunday will include runway all-day runway shows featuring 10 designers, showrooms where fashionistas can try on and purchase outfits, and an art-in-motion art display. Designers include Well Groomed Designs, House of Raina, Indochino, Mehnaz Fine Jewels and more.

“I believe that ‘woman’ is a perfect blend of sensuality and class,” said Dhaliwal. “But at South Asian Fashion Week, we celebrate equality as both men’s and women’s styles will be showcased. Be prepared to take it all in as there will definitely be a lot to see, the ultimate fashionista’s dream that pushes forward and intersects East meets West.”
