Surrey: RCMP are investigating a sex assault that occurred on Aug 18 night in the South Surrey area. Surrey RCMP received a report of a sex assault that occurred in the area of Alderwood Park. The victim and suspect were not known to each other and the suspect is still at large.
A 38-year-old South Surrey woman was walking along a trail in Alderwood Park near the tennis courts when she was suddenly approached from behind by a male. The suspect threw the female to the ground and attempted to remove her clothing. While the suspect attempted to drag the victim into the nearby bushes she proceeded to fight back and at one point managed to head butt the suspect in the nose with the back of her head. Additionally the victim managed to scratch the suspect several times in various places on the body. The victim eventually managed to get free from the attacker and flee to safety where she then called police. The suspect fled the area and has not been seen since.
Surrey RCMP’s Sgt. Dale Carr says, “The male may have sustained an injury during the attack, which may include a black eye(s), a broken/bloody nose, or scratches. If know a male that has sustained these types of injuries please contact the Surrey RCMP Special Victims Unit at 604-599-0502.”
The Surrey RCMP Special Victims Unit are investigating this incident and are looking for a male thought to be approximately 35-42 years of age, 6 feet tall with dark hair. He was last seen wearing dark baggy pants with a large square belt buckle, a dark hoody with a string and a dark ball cap.
White Rock RCMP is also investigating another sex assault. While Surrey RCMP investigators were reviewing that recent investigation they noted a number of similarities to the overnight Surrey investigation.
“We are not able to conclusively link the two investigations at this early stage some of the similarities in the two investigations caused our investigators to take notice,” says Sgt Carr.
The Surrey RCMP together with the White Rock RCMP would like to issue a warning to women in the South Surrey/White Rock area. Police are now investigating two similar stranger sex assaults from that area.
