THE Vancouver Board of Parks and Recreation is partnering with the Canadian Red Cross to help the people of the Philippines impacted by Typhoon Haiyan. Starting Thursday, November 14, cash donations to the Red Cross Typhoon Haiyan Fund were being accepted in specially marked boxes at 23 community centres in neighborhoods across the city.
Park Board Commissioner Trevor Loke said: “We have been touched and saddened, as a community and on a personal level, by the devastation which struck the Philippines on November 8th. A tragedy on this scale is unimaginable. We urge residents to give what they can to help emergency response efforts and bring hope to the region.”
Fundraising events, big and small, are also taking place around Vancouver to assist victims in the Philippines. Watch for them in your community.
