K’NAAN (L) and Alex Cuba (R) to perform at 12th annual event.

Surrey: The City of Surrey has announced new artist additions to Surrey Fusion Festival including K’NAAN and Alex Cuba.

Internationally acclaimed Somali-Canadian singer K’NAAN will co-headline the Concord Pacific World Music Stage on Saturday, July 20 and Grammy award-winning indie-singer Alex Cuba will perform on Sunday, July 21. The 12th annual free event, presented by Coast Capital Savings, takes place at Holland Park in Surrey.

“Surrey Fusion Festival celebrates the best in entertainment by hosting high-caliber musical talent from across the globe,” says Mary Rukavina, Manager of Special Events and Filming. “We couldn’t be more excited about this addition to our line up and are thrilled to welcome international recording artists K’NAAN and Alex Cuba to the stage.”

K’NAAN came to prominence in 1999 with a spoken word performance at the United Nations that caught the attention of Senegalese superstar Youssou N’Dour. Celebrated for his dynamic live performances, K’NAAN will perform Saturday night at 7:30 p.m. in replacement of Congolese recording artist Ferre Gola who is unable to attend due to unforeseen circumstances.

Known by his stage name Alex Cuba, the Cuban musician is one of the most successful indie singer-songwriters of our time with over 20 awards and nominations to his name, including 4 Latin Grammys, two Junos Awards and three Grammy nominations.

Alex carries his Cuban roots through his sound by incorporating subtle jazz influences, and tasteful, sophisticated lyrics expressing his poetry in an undeniably Cuban way. Alex Cuba will perform Sunday night at 8:00 p.m.
