FOREIGN Affairs Minister John Baird on Friday announced the appointment of Rajani Alexander as Consul General in Chandigarh, India. She replaces Scot Slessor.
Alexander (BA Honours [History], University of Delhi, 1978; MA [History], University of Notre Dame, 1979; PhD [History and Government], University of Notre Dame, 1983), was a researcher, university instructor in Pacific, Asian and Gender Studies, and independent consultant on and program manager of cooperative education before joining the public service of Canada in 1994.
At the headquarters of the Canadian International Development Agency, Alexander was senior adviser in the Gender Equality Division, senior analyst in the Caribbean Program and director of results and accountability in the Geographic Programs Branch.
Abroad, Alexander served in Santiago and Dhaka. Most recently, she was director for Central America and counsellor (development) in Honduras. Alexander has two daughters, Rahel and Maya.
