Surrey: A male acting irrationally inside a grocery store had barricaded himself in the flower cooler area of the store after aggressively confronting customers and staff. The incident took place in the 10300 block of King George Blvd on July 28.

Surrey RCMP officers, who attended the scene, made several attempts to communicate with the subject. The male did not react to the officers demands and continued to behave in an aggressive manner towards police. Subsequently, officers at the scene used a conductive energy weapon and physical force to control the subject without incident.

The 46 year old male, known to police, was apprehended under the Mental Health Act and transported to a local area hospital by ambulance for further medical assessment. He is reported to be in stable condition. None of the customers or staff suffered any injuries during this incident.

Surrey RCMP’s Serious Crime Unit is investigating this matter.
