Surrey: Barinder Rasode and the One Surrey team claimed they will redevelop the Cloverdale Fairgrounds to create an economic and sporting hub in Cloverdale. The plan includes building a trade centre, sporting facility and new transit connections to serve Surrey’s fastest growing town centre, says a news release issued by One Surrey.

One Surrey Mayoral candidate Barinder Rasode said, “Cloverdale is a community of young families and we can’t ignore the sporting needs and economic potential of this rapidly growing area.”

She added, “The City has long been promising a trade centre on this property, and One Surrey will actually deliver this project so our city can tap into this lucrative market and stop losing trade show business to Vancouver and Abbottsford.”

The One Surrey plan includes:

  • A new trade centre which will put Cloverdale back on the map
  • Extensive consultation with residents to build either a pool or an arena
  • Changing transit routes to serve new the facilities
  • Adding a welcome sign featuring Bill Reid at the SE corner of 64th and 176th

“We have had extensive discussions with regional business partners and community groups and they all support this project and believe it will significantly boost our economy, while providing families with the recreation opportunities they have been calling for,” says One Surrey’s Brian Young, who is also President of the Cloverdale District Chamber of Commerce.

“This plan is exactly what Cloverdale and the City of Surrey needs. I’m pleased One Surrey has listened and the team is taking action,” news release cited Shell Busey, Cloverdale District Chamber of Commerce board member as saying.

One Surrey said in the news release that they had met with residents and businesses in Cloverdale who say there is a desperate need for additional youth sporting facilities. The One Surrey plan also includes a recreation centre for Clayton, an area which has experienced unprecedented residential growth.
