Burnaby: The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team has secured Second Degree Murder charges against 60 year old Trudy Gail Hunter, in connection to the murder of Christina Docherty.  Ms. Hunter was arrested in Maple Ridge without incident and will be appearing in Vancouver Provincial Courthouse today, April 28th, at 9:30am.

“While this investigation is now before the Courts I can confirm that it was connected to the drug trade and was not a random act,” Says Sgt. Jennifer Pound.

IHIT would like to acknowledge the assistance that was provided to us throughout this investigation from the E Division Support Services, Burnaby RCMP and the Maple Ridge RCMP.

On December 2, 2013 at 4:30pm Burnaby RCMP responded to a suspicious death in an apartment in the 4900 block of Hastings Street.  Foul play was suspected and IHIT was called and assumed conduct of this investigation from the initial stages.

The victim was identified as 61 year old Christina Docherty and the family was notified of her tragic death.

“IHIT’s priority was to determine a motive for the killing and to identify witnesses, persons of interest and suspects that could assist in putting the pieces of this investigation together.  The perseverance shown by the investigators has paid off as four months later we can confirm an arrest and charge approval for this tragic death,” says Sgt. Jennifer Pound.
