Amit ShahNew Delhi: BJP general secretary Amit Shah, a close aide of PM Narendra Modi, has been accorded Z-Plus category security. India’s Home Minister Rajnath Singh has ordered the CRPF to give Z-plus security to Amit Shah who is also speculated to become the party’s next president. A few other top Sangh Parivar leaders, including RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat, could also be soon upgraded to security cover from a central armed police force, according to home ministry sources.

Shah, who is currently under the protection of the Gujarat Police, has been found to be lately under a high threat perception, the sources said.

Z-plus is the highest level of security provided to VVIPs in India, and involves 40-70 guards, depending upon the threat perception. At the moment, there are around 250 VVIPs with Z-plus security in the central list.
