Surrey: A Liberal candidate in Vancouver is no longer running for the party because of Facebook posts she made about marijuana.

Joy Davies’ posts included a link to an academic paper suggesting pot decreases domestic violence, and comments that the Canadian Cancer Society supports the pharmaceutical industry by refusing to study the benefits of marijuana use.

She had also posted claims the drug could cure skin cancer and that pharmaceutical companies were colluding to hide a cancer cure from Canadians.

Asked about Davies’ comments today in Vancouver, Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau said she didn’t speak for the party.

The Liberals later said Davies would no longer be their candidate in South Surrey-White Rock, effective immediately.

Davies had told the Huffington Post yesterday that she stood by her posts.
