Lac-Megantic-AccidentMontreal: Last year in July a MM&A train rolled down an incline, derailed and exploded in the core of Lac-Mégantic, killing 47 people. The company suspended the locomotive engineer and alleged the driver failed to apply enough handbrakes when he left his train unattended on the main track and headed into Lac-Mégantic to sleep.

Investigations are still continuing into what actually happen on the fateful night but Radio-Canada’s investigative program, Enquête has documented proof that points out that for almost a decade Transport Canada was aware of violations of the rules surrounding the securing of trains but had never imposed any sanctions on the company.
