Komaghatmaru Stamp commemorative stamp unveiled

image001 image002 image003 image004Ottawa:  For the 100th Anniversary of the tragic incident of the Komagata Maru, Minister Tim Uppal joined with his Conservative Caucus colleagues to unveil the new Canada Post commemorative stamp. “May is Asian Heritage Month and as part of the month long observance, our Conservative Government is celebrating Vaisakhi on the Hill,” said Minister Uppal. “For over 100 years, Sikh Canadians have contributed significantly to Canada in all areas of endeavour, and have played a large role in part in building and strengthening our country’s economy, heritage and our rich diversity.” As this year marks the 100th anniversary of the Komagata Maru incident, Asian Heritage Month will also feature many events and tributes to commemorate this tragic incident in our country’s past, including community projects funded by the Community Historical Recognition Program (CHRP).
