A jury on Wednesday found 55-year-old Nirmala Arjun guilty of second-degree murder in the death of William Canning, 65.

At 7:15 a.m. on January 29, 2009, Vancouver Police were called to a suite in the 2100 block of Cassiar Street where they discovered the city’s third homicide of that year. The victim, Canning from New Westminster, had been stabbed.

After a lengthy investigation by the VPD Major Crime Section, Arjun was arrested and charged with second-degree murder on July 29, 2010. Arjun and Canning were known to each other.

Arjun’s next court appearance will be on November 20 to fix a date for sentencing.
