On June 18th, 2014, RCMP responded to a complaint of a Hinton resident attempting to sell a “stun gun” online. Further investigation lead to the seizure of a “Conducted Energy Weapon” (CEW), disguised to look like an iPhone. Less then 24 hours later, Hinton RCMP responded to a complaint of a female causing a disturbance outside of a drinking establishment in the Hinton area. During the course of the investigation, another CEW also disguised as an iPhone was seized and charges laid.
The Hinton RCMP would like to make the public aware that Conducted Energy Weapons (ie.Tasers, stun guns…), despite being available on the internet, are considered to be prohibited weapons as described in the Criminal Code. As such, those found in possession of same may be charged criminally.
