Suva: Fiji’s interim Prime Minister Commodore Frank Bainimarama handed control of the country’s military to Brigadier General Mosese Tikoitoga. Commodore Bainimarama is going to participate in National election with a new political party and is stepping down to begin campaign for his new party.

Colonel Mosese Tikoitoga, the current commander of Fiji’s Land Force, will be the new military commander.

Under Fiji’s new laws governing political parties, members of the Republic of Fiji Military Forces are not permitted to be members of political parties, and must not engage in political activity. Commodore Bainimarama led the military coup against the government of Laesenia Qarase in December 2006, and was appointed as interim prime minister in 2007
