Fresh from her break up with long-time boyfriend RANBIR KAPOOR, KATRINA KAIF was seen receiving roses from ADITYA ROY KAPOOR at a promotional event in New Delhi for ABHISHEK KAPOOR’s FITOOR, which is being promoted as Valentine Day release, and while Katrina is putting up a brave front promoting the film all over India, Ranbir hasn’t been seen for a long time. Shot in Kashmir, FITOOR is a love story and has been in news for Rekha’s sudden and unexplained departure and replacement by TABU but the film also brought an end to the most loved love story of Ranbir – Katrina after Katrina went to Salman Khan’s BIG BOSS finale to promote the film in spite of Ranbir’s objections and Katrina’s FITOOR with FITOOR brought an end to Ranbir’s FITOOR with Katrina! Divya Khosla Kumar’s SANAM RE has been embroiled in controversy for some time after PULKIT SAMRAT’s wife alleged her husband involvement with film’s heroine YAMI GAUTAM and while they’ve officially separated, Pulkit has denied any involvement with Yami though SANAM RE, supposedly a love story shot in Shimla & Ladakh, has brought an end to Pulkit Samrat’s marriage life. Meanwhile Divya Khosla Kumar, director & wife of T-Series producer Bhushan Kumar and director of last year hit YAARIYAN, has denied the break up story as promotional ploy to boost the film as a Valentine Day release. As the name suggests, LUCKHNOWI ISHQ is a love story shot in Lucknow between ARADHYAY SUMAN & KARISHMA KOTAK but in real life we all know that Shekhar Suman’s son Aradhyay was forced to leave his rumoured girlfriend KANGANA RANAUT for career and while Aradhyay is still struggling with his career, Kangana has zoomed to the top and having the last laugh. Oh well, LUCKHNOWI ISHQ is the third bollywood love story slated to release on this VALENTINE DAY and one wonders if these three films could be a heavy dose of love for not very lovey dovey Indians who may also have to face the barrage of SHIV SAINIKS, BAJRANG DAL SIPAHIS or some newly formed JAN JAGRAN SAMITI at multiplexes! Whatever the outcome may be, we certainly hope that the Indians are more receptive to love stories and especially on Valentine Day! KVP ENTERTAINERS & ASIAN JOURNAL wishes all readers a very HAPPY VALENTINE DAY!
Death of an Indian Poet!!!
MUQTIDA HASAN NIDA FAZLI, popularly known as NIDA FAZLI, was a proud Indian poet, writer & lyricist, who believed in humanity and mocked those who created boundaries in the name of religion. Born in Delhi on October 12, 1938 to a Kashmiri Muslim family, he refused to move to Pakistan with his family after partition and instead chose to stay in India I remember him telling me in an interview during his last trip to Vancouver at the invitation of Canada Urdu Association in 2007, ‘ How could I live in a country whose foundation was laid in the name of religion! ‘ (Jis mulk ki buniyaad mazhab ke naam par ho, main wahan nahin reh sakta) Along with MIR & GALIB, he was equally at ease with MEERA & KABIR and that’s why rather than Urdu, he was more of a HINDUSTANI poet and it reflected in his writings, poetry recitations in various mushairas and lyrics in various films. He started with DHARMYUG & BLITZ in Bombay and later became popular on All India Radio. His songs in films like AAP TO AISE NA THE, RAZIA SULTAN & AHISTA AHISTA catapulted him to fame and soon nazams like Hoshwalon Ko Khabar Kya… made him a darling of masses. Ghar Se Masjid Hai Bahut Door… in Mahesh Bhatt’s TAMANNA and Aaja Aa Bhi Jaa… in SUR made him a popular shayar in bollywood and his album INSIGHT with JAGJIT SINGH was quite a hit. He was against religious zealots all over and had to go underground in 1992 after Babri Masjid demolition.
Honored with PADMA SHRI, NIDA FAZLI succumbed to death on February 8,2016 after a massive heart attack and though he’s no more, his poetry will echo amongst us FOREVER!
Sunny Deol is still wounded!!!
Undeterred by critics thrashing, SUNNY DEOL is upbeat by the strong showing at single screens as GHAYAL ONCE AGAIN collected Rs.33 Crores in the first week and though it’s a far cry from the enormous budget of the film, nevertheless it’s a sign that all is not lost for Sunny as the film did well in the overseas territories as well. A strong showing in the second week (chances are remote with three films releasing on the Valentine’s Day) would certainly bring cheers but all rests on Sunny’s legion of admirers who’re certainly declining in numbers as time goes by! AIRLIFT continues to make all proud as the film’s worldwide collections crossed Rs.215 Crores and now AKSHAY KUMAR has started the shoot of Neeraj Pandey’s RUSTOM.
Last week’s release of SANAM TERI KASAM failed to impress but all eyes are on FITOOR, LUCKHNOWI ISHQ & SANAM RE as all three are designed for Valentine’s Day. With that it’s time to say good bye but not before wishing you all a very HAPPY VALENTINE’S DAY and a reminder that tickets at $ 50, 75,100 & VIP + $ 3 FC for SHABANA AZMI-JAVED AKHTAR-JASWINDER SINGH’s musical play KAIFI AUR MAIN, to be staged at HARD ROCK CASINO on FRIDAY, APRIL 8, 2016 at 8.30 PM, are now available at KAMAL’S VIDEO PALACE (604)592-9777!
