New Delhi, Jan 30 (IANS) An elderly couple, long tormented by violent acts of their 27-year-old alcoholic son, killed him and dumped his body in a drain after chopping it into small pieces and sought to mislead police about his whereabouts but finally confessed to the crime, police said Friday.

Nand Kishore, 68, a mason, and his wife Asha Devi, 60, have been arrested for killing their son Suraj Bhan inside their house Jan 6 night in south Delhi’s Jaitpur.

The victim’s body was found Jan 8 after that police launched an inquiry on finding the behaviour of elderly couple suspicious, a police official said.

“We got suspicious at the couple as their son was missing since two days before his body was found in the drain. During the initial inquiry, they tried to mislead police by saying that their son has gone to Dubai for some work,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police Mandeep Sigh Randhawa.

But during questioning, the couple later broke down and admitted that they killed him, he said.

The couple told police that their son used to beat them badly when they failed to give him money to buy liquor.

“On Jan 6 night, the accused, while in a drunken condition, again started beating the couple as he demanded more money to buy liquor. His father hit him with hammer to save his wife and himself and when he became unconscious, they strangulated him,” said Randhawa.

They later chopped the body into small pieces and dumped it in a nearby drain, he added.
