WHY not create a unique resolution this New Year’s celebrations by committing to it earlier or starting as early as now? Even though this might not be considered as a true New Year’s resolution, it can be considered as a way of changing your lifestyle and being complimented for it in time for the New Year. A lot of people tend to follow their resolution for a couple of months until they start slacking off or don’t see any type of results. This lowers their self-esteem, resulting in a “failed” New Year’s resolution. But the resolution is easier than losing weight and it makes you feel great because all you have to do is donate!

It’s as simple as reading this sentence that you’ve just read. All you need to do is give some of your time this season to a charity or a cause that interests you. This way you are interacting with new people almost every day and learning new things all the time. By donating your time, you may be sacrificing it but at the same time you are gaining professional experience on dealing with others, responding to questions, becoming more confident and potentially even gaining on-the-job experience. When you do something as simple as giving up your time for the betterment of the community, it is regarded highly by others around you. Donating your time for a charity or a cause makes you feel good about yourself and it gives you results right away with people that recognize the efforts you put into this.

I would just like to state that I have personally been inspired to commit myself to follow this new trend of giving back to the community during the holiday season. It’s not always about giving and receiving presents but it can also be donating time out of your life to assist in building and structuring better communities for all of us to reside in. In the past I have volunteered with the Halton Children’s Aid Society by helping to wrap presents for gifts that customers in the store have just bought. I had a great time socializing as well as meeting new people but at the same time I learned how to wrap my presents in a better way and build my confidence in approaching people to do something for them like this.

This year I will do something similar but a little closer to home with Peace Welcome Club. This year in partnership with PWC, we want to hear your thoughts about this way of approaching the upcoming holiday season and how you plan on accomplishing that. Send in your responses at peacewelcomeclub@gmail.com.

All in all, have fun this holiday season and enjoy New Year’s as much as I do but at the same time if you happen to have time out of your busy schedule, then take some of it out for a good cause or charity this holiday season.
