Picking a post-secondary school can be tough. Where should I go? What should I study? How do I apply? Kwantlen Polytechnic University (KPU) is making that transition a little easier for high school students getting ready to take the next steps in their educational journey.
KPU is preparing for their next Discovery Day—a day-long event where high school students spend the day on campus at the university—on Monday, December 5 at the Richmond campus.
Discovery Day aims to make the shift from secondary to post-secondary education as seamless as possible, by giving students still in high school the opportunity to get an up close look at the university. Students can take a guided tour of the campus while they learn what services are available, where amenities are on campus, and become familiar with the resources KPU offers including advising, volunteer opportunities, career services, student life, recreation and much more. Students can connect with other like-minded individuals, ask questions, and discover the wealth of possibilities that exist at the university.
Currently, KPU offers degree, diploma, certificate, and citation programs, and foundation training required for trades. Discovery Day allows high schoolers to explore their options, and talk to current KPU students who can share their experiences applying to KPU, studying at the university, and getting involved in campus life.
Attendees will learn how to apply to KPU using the online system, and get real tips and tricks about course selection, studying, and combining academics with real-life interests. Can’t decide what to study? Not a problem. The event includes opportunities for students to speak with program reps and get a first-hand account of what it’s really like making the leap from high school to university.
The Discovery Day event runs from 9:30am-1pm, Monday, December 5, at KPU Richmond—8771 Lansdowne Road. To register or learn more about other Discovery Day events visit kpu.ca/discoveryday
