Delhi ACP attackedNew Delhi: A senior Delhi Police officer was  attacked by three people, including a woman, in an incident of road rage here, police said.

Amit Singh, assistant commissioner of police in the Special Cell, was going to his office when his car was hit by another car in Nizamuddin area of south Delhi..

“Amit Singh, accompanied by a driver, was on duty in a government vehicle, having no police mark. When they reached opposite Lodhi Road Crematorium, one car driven by a minor accompanied by his parents, hit Singh’s vehicle,” Delhi Police spokesperson Rajan Bhagat said in a statement.

Singh’s driver got down from the car after it was hit and signalled the driver of the other vehicle to drive properly but he did not pay any attention and continued his rash driving.

“Singh’s driver again went to him to make him understand about the need to drive properly which led to an altercation between them. Watching this, Singh came out from the vehicle to protect the driver, who was surrounded by the gathering that had assembled there. Meanwhile, a man on a motorcycle, who was probably with the minor driving the car also stopped there,” said the statement.

He said the motorcycle-borne along with the minor and others attacked Singh with a helmet.

“Three people have been apprehended from the spot,” said the statement.

“Singh, who tried to protect himself, faced injuries to his nose, head and face. He was taken to AIIMS trauma centre, where he is stated to be out of danger,” a senior police officer told IANS.
