Recognize It. Report It. Stop It.

Ottawa: As the tenth anniversary of Fraud Prevention Month comes to an end, the Competition Bureau would like to remind Canadian consumers and businesses to be vigilant throughout the year in order to avoid falling victim to fraud.

The Bureau encourages Canadians and their families to take the time to inform themselves about fraud. The more educated Canadians are about the various types of scams, the less likely they are to become victims.

Remember these important tips to protect yourself year round:

  • Before sending money or giving credit card or account details, be sure you understand what you are agreeing to.
  • Always seek independent advice if an offer involves time pressure, providing personal information and/or sending money.
  • Beware of advertisements that promise too much. Think twice before buying a product that claims it can do it all.
