IMG_0018White Rock: A moderated community dialogue regarding rail safety and dangerous goods was held July 7 at White Rock Community Centre. More than 400 people gathered to discuss Pedestrian Crossing and Rail Safety; Train Whistles, Vibrations, Dangerous Goods; Relocation in White Rock. They also discussed the need of audio and visual warning systems. MLA Marvin Hunt was the moderator at the dialogue. Mayor of White Rock; MLA Gordon Hogg; Mary Jane Bennett – Transportation consultant, Rail Law specialist; Hugh Ellenwood – WR Museum & Archives; Councillor Meyer – Chair Rail Task Force were some of the key people present at the dialogue. Pat Petrala, Community Facilitator says, “The beaches of Semiahmoo Peninsula serve the entire lower mainland.  It is a National legislation and entangled situation. This issue will remain hot all summer, the pipeline and other generic issues may not grab public’s attention.  This is more immediate; residents that live within 1 km of the trains have not gotten any sleep and are very angry.”
