FordySurrey: The City of Surrey’s top cop, Chief Superintendent W.C. (Bill) Fordy received the Order of Merit medal in Ottawa. The prestigious award honours a career of exceptional service or distinctive merit displayed by the men and women of the Canadian Police Services, and recognizes their commitment to this country. The primary focus is on exceptional merit, contributions to policing and community development.

Chief Superintendent Fordy has been in charge of Surrey Detachment, the largest RCMP detachment in the country, since June of 2012. He received the Order of Merit in a ceremony at Rideau Hall presided by His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada.

“Throughout his long and distinguished career, Bill Fordy’s superior police work and contributions to the community have been exemplary,” says Mayor Dianne Watts. “His leadership, commitment and progressive approach to policing have enhanced the safety and security of our residents. The award Chief Superintendent Fordy receives today is well deserved as it acknowledges the significant contributions he has made to the people of Surrey.”
