Surrey: The City of Surrey and Modo The Car Co-op have partnered to offer carsharing as a viable transportation option in Surrey’s downtown core. Carsharing, a model of car rental where vehicles are booked by the hour or day, is part of a new City of Surrey program. Its benefits meet several of the City’s sustainability goals, including providing more environmentally and economically sustainable transportation options for both City staff and residents.
“Carsharing is a component of the City’s multi-modal transportation strategy and it also supports our sustainability goals,” says City of Surrey Mayor Dianne Watts.
The Modo fleet in Surrey has doubled from four to eight vehicles available to the public and can be found at the following locations.
o Surrey Central SkyTrain Red Toyota Prius
o Quattro Yellow Fiat 500 Blue Toyota Matrix
o Gateway SkyTrain Red Dodge Grand Caravan
Surrey Eye Care Centre (temporary location) Blue Nissan Versa Note Blue Toyota Prius C
o North Surrey Recreation Centre Red Toyota Prius C Grey Nissan Sentra
“Carsharing in urban communities is a proven mode of alternative transportation,” says Councillor Bruce Hayne, Chair of the Sustainability Committee.
