New Delhi: The Deputy Leader of the Congress in the lower house of India`s parliament Capt Amarinder Singh called for a National Drug Policy to fight the curse of addiction. Having a dig at the NDA’s agenda, he said, there was nothing new in it as these were repackaged programmes of the UPA. “This is old wine in new bottles”, he remarked.
Speaking in the Lok Sabha (lower house) during the thanks motion to the President’s address today, Capt Amarinder drew the attention of the house towards the serious problem of drug addiction in Punjab. He also referred to the Maqboolpura village in his Amritsar parliamentary constituency where 90 percent women have been widowed as their husbands have fallen prey to drug addiction.
He said the drugs were coming from across the border and also from states like Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan.
