Calgary: Calgary police have expanded their search for a missing boy and his grandparents to a dump northwest of the city.

Spokeswoman Emma Poole says seven officers were going through the Spyhill Landfill looking for evidence.

She says the search is routine in such cases as investigators slowly widen their net.

Poole says as the investigation drags on, it’s expected other landfills in the area will be checked as well.

Five-year-old Nathan O’Brien and his grandparents Alvin and Kathy Liknes (LICK’-ness) were last seen June 29.

A man police say is a person of interest in the case is currently being held in custody on other charges and his family’s property is being searched as well
