Surrey City Council votes to remove slot machines
Surrey: On Monday night Surrey City council passed a motion to remove 150 slot machines at Newton Square Bingo Hall. Newton residents have been lobbying for removal of the machines for last one year.Two years ago Council had approved the slot machines by a narrow vote 5-4, but on Monday night the Council passed a motion asking the BCLC to remove the slot machines from the Newton Gaming Hall. Council also approved the adoption of the Newton Business Improvement Area Bylaw. This adoption gives authorization to local property owners and business representatives currently operating as the Newton BIA Sponsorship Committee, to form a Newton Business Improvement Association (BIA). The area between 68 Avenue to the south, 135 Street to the west, 78 Avenue to the north and 138 Street to the east comes under Newton BIA
