Brookeside Gurudwara president is in custody for assaulting wife

Surrey: The president of Brookside Gurudwara Baldev Singh Kalsi, who is charged with attempt of murder of his wife, has been assaulted at a local correctional facility.

Police said on July 15th Surrey they responded to a report of an assault on an inmate at Surrey Pretrial Services Centre at 14323 57th Avenue. Upon attendance, officers learned that a 66 year old male victim was non other than Baldev Kalsi. He was taken to local hospital suffering from facial injuries, however, is expected to make a full recovery. Police identified a 42 year male inmate as a possible suspect and are continuing their investigation.

Kalsi was charged with aggravated assault for injuring his wife with life threatening Injuries. His wife who is airlifted on July 13 is still on life support and in critical condition. Baldev Singh Kalsi, 66, is the president of Gurdwara Sahib Brookside was taken into police custody.

On July 13 Surrey RCMP received a report of a female that may have been in medical distress at a South Surrey home near 194 and 32. The incident took place in Kalsi couple’s home.

“I can confirm that the injured woman is currently on life support and IHIT has taken conduct of this investigation.  I can also confirm that we have one adult male in custody in relation to this incident,’’ Says Sergeant Bari Emam of IHIT.

“This tragic incident is domestic related and not a random attack.  The victim remains in hospital on life support and in critical condition. Her family has been notified,” says Staff Sergeant Jennifer Pound.

Meanwhile, news came that the Canadian Ramgarhia Society removed Kalsi as its President.
