Surrey: One man is dead following an apparent fight in Surrey. The victim was found injured early Thursday around 1:50 a.m. at 65B Ave. and 131 St. and later died in hospital.
IHIT spokesman Sgt. Bari Emam said victim was suffering from some significant injuries and was transported to hospital.
Large area was sealed at the scene of crime with police tape surrounding St. Bernadette Elementary School and Church. Classes at St. Bernadette Elementary cancelled on Thursday due to investigation as crime happened in the school ground. On asking why the large area has been sealed Sgt. Emam said that it is not uncommon for police and large area is sealed for forensic reasons.
No suspects have been arrested and the victim’s identity and cause of death have not been released. However, a local resident told media that group of people were drinking till late night and he identify victim as 23 old South Asian man Deepak Chahal ,who was an electrician.
Police say the incident does not appear to be connected to a shooting on Wednesday in the Clayton Heights neighbourhood that left one man with a hand injury.
The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) has taken over the investigation.
IHIT spokesman Sgt. Bari Emam said it didn’t appear the incident was connected to any of the homes in the area.
