Police seeking witnesses

Surrey: RCMP are requesting public assistance in identifying a possible witness to a serious motor vehicle collision that occurred on July 16.

On July 9th police attended a two vehicle collision at the intersection of 184th Street and 40th Avenue. Police said that a Ford pickup truck was travelling northbound when it collided with a Ford Explorer sport utility vehicle travelling eastbound. The 29 year old female driver of the Explorer and her 4 year old male occupant were taken to hospital with minor injuries while a 9 year old female occupant of the vehicle was airlifted to hospital with serious, but non-life threatening injuries. The 35 year old driver and sole occupant of the pickup truck sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene.

The witness being sought by police is believed to have been driving a dark Harley-Davidson style motorcycle and was travelling behind the pickup truck at the time of the collision. It is believed he stopped to assist and may have spoken to one of the drivers before leaving the scene prior to police attendance.

The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) has been notified by the Surrey RCMP as the driver of the pickup truck was an off-duty RCMP officer. The IIO is investigating the actions of the off-duty officer while the Surrey RCMP’s Criminal Collision Investigation Team (CCIT) investigates the actions of the other driver.

Anyone with further information who has not already spoken to police is asked to contact the Surrey RCMP at 604-599-0502 or, if they wish to remain anonymous, Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
