2019 Lincoln MKC PIC 1Sleek, stylish and sporty, Lincoln’s compact MKC SUV has a shapely, coupe-like design that allows it to stand out for the crowd and look good against any of its premium rivals. For 2019 the Lincoln MKC has a smart new grille, redesigned LED lights, some extra chrome trim, and new welcome lights on the exterior. Also for 2019, the MKC receives Lincoln Connect, Lincoln’s 4G WI-Fi hotspot system while top tier models receive four-way power lumbar control on the driver seat,

Engine choices include a 2.0-litre EcoBoost turbocharged four-cylinder engined MKC which produces 240 horsepower at 5,500 rpm, with 270 lb.-ft. of torque at 3,000 rpm. There is also a more powerful, high-output 2.3-litre EcoBoost engine, as on our tester which uses a twin-scroll turbocharger and a three-port integrated exhaust manifold cylinder head generating 285 horsepower and 305 lb.-ft. of torque. Default transmission is a six-speed automatic with paddle shifters and all-wheel drive are standard for all Canadian spec MKC’s.

As befits the specification in this sector, the MKC comes very well equipped, whilst options packages abound. Our tester featured the Technology Package ($2,420) adding a parking assist system, adaptive cruise control, a forward sensing system and lane keeping system. Also added was the Canadian Touring package ($2,150). Total options came to $7,870 for a final tally of $58,570.

2019 LINCOLN MKC PIC 2Interior wise, the MKC exhibits excellent attention to the cabin, which blends a mix of luxury, sport and technology. There is luxury in the form of high quality Bridge of Weir premium leather upholstery and genuine real wood trim accents. The MKC replaces the shift lever in favor of buttons that are an elegant touch. At the center of the dash is a large infotainment screen housing Ford’s new Sync 3 system. It’s complemented by large knobs for tuning and volume, and has an array of climate-control switches on its elevated, kiosk-like center console. There’s a rich feel in the materials, with Bridge of Weir leather and real wood trim available. Ford’s Sync system, optional THX II “certified” audio system, and other features too numerous to list, only add to the feeling of luxury. Up front, the seats are roomy and comfortable, whilst the rear perch offers seating for three passenger. Note due to the small compact dimensions, the rear can be a shade tight with three adults in the back.

However, the rear seat can seat three kids or two large adults in comfort. Rear cargo room is decent, with a storage capacity of 712 litres behind second row, and 1,505 litres with second-row seats folded. The Lincoln MKC has a tow rating of 907 kg (1,995 lb). The bigger 2.3 EcoBoost engine is my recommendation as it is designed for higher performance with fuel economy in mind and offers a bit more zing in long distance cruising and high-speed highway passing and merging. The six-speed SelectShift automatic transmission, is a smooth, responsive unit and offers quick seamless shifts.

The Lincoln MKC has three drive selectable modes, courtesy of the Lincoln Drive Control to select from sport, comfort and normal drive modes for different driving styles and conditions. The continuously controlled damping (CCD) setup constantly monitors the road; smoothing out the ride and improving the handling. Overall, the MKC errs more on the side of comfort and luxury rather than sport in its reflexes and offers a luxury car like ride. Fuel economy figures for the 2 the 2.3-litre EcoBoost offers 12.9/9.2 L/100 km city/hwy. In summing up, the Lincoln has a number of pros: it is very well equipped in comparison to its rivals and is more comfortable than its competitors. Downsides are few: It is less roomy in the rear cabin and cargo department. The 2019 MKC is a stylish, comfortable, and a must consider choice among the premium compact sport-utility buyers. The turbocharged engines, responsive steering, handling and great looking cabin are high points
