Presented by India’s entertainment icon, Shiamak Davar, spirit of INDIA – a Shiamak UK production, is a musical spectacular that takes the audiences through the rich history, diverse cultures and its transformation to the modern era through the magic of music and dance. A celebration of India’s spirituality, mythology, colorful festivals, flamboyant weddings, magnificent music, exhilarating dances and of course Bollywood, this production manifests the true spirit of this multi-cultural nation.

The Debut and Response

The show debuted in August, 2017 to a packed house and a standing ovation. Soon after the premier in London, the production travelled to Paris to celebrate 70 years of Indian Independence at the prestigious Salle de Fete.

The Year of Spirit

“We are excited to present the first ever Bollywood production on our main stage.” says Chris Sudworth, Associate Director of Birmingham Hippodrome. ‘spirit of INDIA’ will be staged on March 11 at UK’s largest touring theatre, alongside the biggest Westend Musicals. The show will be performed by 90 dancers from The Shiamak UK Dance Team and 300 students from The Shiamak Dance Academy in Greater London, Leicester, Birmingham, Coventry, Nottingham, Milton Keynes & Manchester. Over 400 school children from 5 schools across Birmingham will present a curtain raiser to the show.

On May 7 (Long Bank Holiday Weekend), ‘spirt of INDIA’ will feature in The UK’s biggest Multi Arts ‘Alchemy’ Festival – celebrating the dynamic cultural connections and exchange of ideas between South Asia and the UK. The show will be performed at the iconic Queen Elizabeth Hall at Southbank centre, London, a platform that has seen the likes of the legendary Margaret Atwood and J.K. Rowling grace the stage. “It was an absolute pleasure to see the whole team in action with such skill and poise. Huge congratulations to The Shiamak Team for creating such an enjoyable showcase of India and for the choreography performed with a refreshing pace and passion. The audience were in raptures!” says Rachel Harris Creative Producer, Festival Development Curator, Alchemy, Southbank Centre who witnessed the launch show in August 2017.

June 2 will witness the third leg of the show at the iconic Curve, a spectacular state-of-the-art theatre based in the heart of Leicester’s vibrant Cultural Quarter. The show will be performed at the main house where musicals such as HairSpray, Grease & Sound of Music were performed.

The Choreographer

Shiamak Davar is the first name that comes to everyone’s mind as India’s foremost Entertainment Icon. Founder and Artistic Director of the world’s largest dance academy, a singing sensation who made his mark in the pop music era, a National Award winning choreographer who has wowed audiences and world leaders across the globe, and a philanthropist whose mission is to heal through dance, Shiamak has a delightful career spanning over thirty years. For his exemplary work and contribution to dance and the performing arts, Shiamak has been honored with a Doctorate by the Middlesex University in London, and a Medallion and Citation by the Governor General of Canada. With a mission to spread the joy of dance, Shiamak has created an environment conducive for cultural exchange and a community that is inclusive, giving everyone equal opportunity to learn and share knowledge.
