Vancouver: Drivers are advised to expect delays on the Lions Gate Bridge this weekend, while crews remove the temporary steel plates that were in place for bridge rehabilitation work.

In addition, the extra layer of asphalt that was needed for a smooth transition on either side of the plates will be removed, and lane lines will be repainted.

Crews will be working overnight this weekend, when traffic volumes are lowest. The following lane closures will be in effect:

* one lane, open in each direction – 8 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., Saturday, June 16, 2018

* single-lane, alternating traffic – 10:30 p.m., Saturday, June 16, 2018, to 8:30 a.m., Sunday, June 17, 2018

Single-lane, alternating traffic has been scheduled to begin late in the evening, to give traffic time to disperse following the BC Lions’ game.

All drivers can expect heavy traffic volumes and delays. They should allow for extra time, and are encouraged to use the Ironworkers Memorial Bridge as an alternative route.

The sidewalk on the Lions Gate Bridge will remain open for pedestrians and cyclists. All travellers are reminded to obey signs and traffic control personnel, and watch for workers.
