Vancouver: The longest-serving city councillor in Surrey’s history won’t run again in the upcoming civic election.

Judy Villeneuve says 29 consecutive years on council has been a tremendous opportunity.

But she says she wants to spend more time with her family and make room for new voices on council.

Villeneuve was first elected in 1989 and currently chairs Surrey’s Social Policy and Public Art Advisory committees, is a member of the finance and police committees, and is also the city’s representative on the board of Metro Vancouver.
