Health Care Assistant Program - Hands on-50_rszThe health and wellness sector is continuing to grow and evolve in BC, bringing with it the need for trained professionals. In fact, the 2017 BC Labour Market Outlook notes that over 15% of all new job openings in the province over the next decade will be in the healthcare and social assistance fields.

Kwantlen Polytechnic University’s (KPU) Faculty of Health is preparing individuals for a variety of roles in the growing healthcare field in as little as two semesters.

The university’s Health Care Assistant program, which can be completed in eight months of full-time study, prepares learners to work as a front-line caregiver in a variety of settings. Grads may go on to work in complex care, home support, assisted living, acute care, adult daycare, and more, supporting adults experiencing diverse and complex health and wellness challenges.

Throughout the certificate program, learners take courses in interpersonal communication, health and healing, and technology for health care, and complete both a clinical practice and final practicum where they can put their skills into action and experience the industry first-hand.

In addition to the Health Care Assistant Certificate, The Faculty of Health also offers a range of credentials in nursing, psychiatric nursing, traditional Chinese medicine-acupuncture, and more. Contact the Future Students’ Office at study@kpu.ca or visit kpu.ca/health for details.
